What I've learned and how it impacts my thinking on Korea: 1) People learn better best when they interact with something (people, places, things, etc.); therefore, as we think about placing learning throughout Songdo, it is important that we create ways for people to interact (interact with artifacts, interact w/ each other through phones & PDA)

2) Learning can take place anywhere

3) As you design learning in public places you need to take into account their individual profiles (previous knowledge, age, motivation) and how these individual profiles aggregate to create segments of the population.

4) It is important to determine to what you want learners to learn and how you will assess that learning

5) Learning in public spaces is voluntary, therefore, we should take into account the motivation learners bring to the table and make sure that our spaces encourage learners to learn

Dan: Really like point 5 coming out of the Allen reading. Maybe motviation is less important in a space than opportunity for learning and perhaps there is some way to emphasize that people can take advantage of this global community and highly resourced community. Also, assessment is a huge challenge for this project, maybe there are simpler measures you can definitely do like tracking what kind of info people download or doing small surveys to see if people believe they are learning. I'm looking forward to your group's work.
