Here's a page to post links, images, or something you find interesting and that others might enjoy too.

Bobby Just for fun, if you're interested in design, like I am, here is a great website with blogs about design, links, jobs & internships, etc. It's a great resource and also just fun to check out the latest in the design world.

On a more random note, here is something that is just plain cool... http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-5503582578132361295&q=pipe+drea

Karin A thought about campus resources... There is so much wisdom just in this group... we should be able to collect an awesome amount of information about Stanford. For example, if you want to eat, here's an overview of the eateries (not dining rooms) on campus: Campus Eateries So if anyone else wants to add info on other resources (computing, studying, working, playing, relaxing) I'd love to know!

Dan: I am thinking about the implications for learning spaces connected to the new C6 room at Iowa State. 100 million pixels in what sounds like the most sophisticated virtual reality environment in the world. This Iowa State News Service article describes in depth the 10 foot by 10 foot by 10 foot cube that will be used to conduct sophisticated simulations for urban planning, weather simulations, and defense applications (sounds like DOD put some money into this.) Sounds about as close to the Star Trek Holodeck as exists today. This experimental space surely costs more than the $4million figure the article cites, but what are the implications when the price point drops down to $4,000? Perhaps this is 10-15 years off which is not that long when talking about the lifespan of a building. Here's one picture from the article referenced above:

Many of us believe that this kind of immersive environment holds great potential for reaching all kinds of learners. As always, the most important thing will be the social processes that surround this kind of tool. If the walls and floors of formal learning spaces start to be covered with pixels, what kinds of innovative practices can we come up with to use them well? What roles will the instructor have to take on? What elements of community can be enhanced by this immersive environment?

Thanks to Roland Piquepaille via Howard Rheingoldfor this pointer.

Dan: A bigger better picture of Dale's Cone of Experience originally proposed by Edgar Dale in the 1960's. This page, is from a teacher prep program at Bloomsbury College in PA.

Dan Some things for May 8...

Insane new phone from Nokia coming out soon. high quality video automatically connects with video blogs, etc. or share so that you can take high quality images and video then share in single step.

Conference in Korea soon about possibliities of next gen wireless devices, WiBRO World Forum

Update on Wireless everywhere

Dan: Project Rebrith is the 'official' chronicle of the rebuilding of lower manhattan at the World Trade Center site. http://www.projectrebirth.org/ Take a look at the site, there are so many opportuntieis and challenges at this space. What strike you as some of the most important oppurtinities and challenges?

Dan: Immediately following our first class on April 10, I went with my son to an emergency dentist appointment. After it became clear that he was okay, I started thinking about waiting rooms and doctors' offices as learning spaces. What kind of learning happens in these spaces? what are the opportunities? where is the assessment? Actually a great assessment system built-in to the space is that hopefully patients make regular visits to the dentist and the dentist has clear evidence if learning has happened; i.e. are you flossing?

Dan: The Stanford Quake Centennial project is an interesting combination of connecting learning in physical spaces - there is a walking tour around campus - with virtual spaces - there is an accompanying website with more info, images, and a timeline.
