LOTS of new materials added– updated!

Salve Omnes,

We hope you enjoyed this last unit’s exciting mix of chariots, gladiators, and archaeology! At least for me (Glory, your out-of-sight webmaster), I could watch Gladiator again this weekend…

We’ve uploaded a bunch of files for your reference and knowledge.  On the Schedule and Readings Page, you will find…

  • Lecture slides from February 10th onward, under the corresponding date
  • Notes and audio files of breakout sessions 2, 3, and 4.  To access the audio files, you’ll need to provide your SUnet ID and password– we’ve uploaded them to a fancy box account because they’re large files!
  • Videos– Links to watch The Emperor’s Gift and Gladiators Back from the Dead are nested under February 17th and February 24th, respectively, on the Schedule and Readings page. You’ll also need to log in with your SUnet ID to access the files.
  • Sample reading response papers— exemplary papers by three of your peers, posted on the Discussions page.

Finally, you can read about requirements and details of the Unit 4 Assignment (a paper or class project) in the attached PDF.  You can read an example of an excellent project here: Ashley Westhem’s submission, which is an interview with an Australian Olympian that compares and contrasts a modern Olympic athlete’s regimen and Olympic mindset with that of the Ancient Greeks!

Please feel free to reach out to the teaching team if you have any questions about the assignment.
