Superfly finishes the season tied for 13th at Nationals

The Stanford women played five hard-fought games at College Nationals in Madison, Wisconsin. We started out Friday with a 15-9 win against Minnesota. That afternoon, we played Northeastern. We struggled to play offense against their clam defense and lost on universe point.

Saturday we looked to avenge our losses. We played Oregon in the morning, but their signature junk D proved difficult for us. Finally, we played Wisconsin with for the chance to enter pre-quarters. We threw our wide variety of zone looks that won us the game against them at Centex. However, they broke through our zone and we lost the game 8-10.

We played a final consolation game Saturday afternoon against Texas. It was a tight game, but happily we were able to finish our season on a win, 15-14.

Superfly is Southwest Regional Champions!

Though our team was still suffering from numerous injuries during regionals, we stayed mentally focused through all of Saturday and went 4-0. Our mantra throughout the day was "games to three"--every point is just another point in the game to three.

On Sunday we faced our in-region rivals, UC Santa Barbara, in the finals. We were unfortunately down 3-8 at halftime, but Superfly never let up and won the game 12-11 on universe point. We're going to Madison!

Which door? Front Door.

Minifly Wins Sectionals

Because of injuries and outside commitments, Superfly played sectionals with 11 people. We didn't let our low numbers get us down, however, and fought hard through all our games. We went the entire weekend without a single loss! Our injured teammates were immensely helpful on the sideline bringing us water and and gatorade, and their awesome sideline talk kept us pumped up.

Superfly Finishes 8th at Centex

During the first weekend of spring break, Superfly traveled to Austin, Texas to compete with competitive college teams from all over the country. After going 1-2 on Saturday, we placed 2nd in the pool through point differential and entered pre-quarters on Sunday. The weather was chilly and windy the entire day. In our first game, Wisco just couldn't keep up with our sick zone D and huck-and-zone O. We avenged our loss to them at Stanford Invite with a 10-6 win, but unfortunately we lost our next three games. We finished 8th after being seeded 15th, and our finish was high enough to earn us another bid to nationals for the Southwest.

After our Saturday games, we spent some time perfecting our dance before performing. Check out the video of our performance!

Superfly Places 8th at Stanford Invite

Superfly spent the last few weeks of winter quarter training hard; we started sprint practice each wednesday at 6:30 am in the weeks following Kaimana. Right before dead week, Superfly faced some tough competition from out of region teams here on our home turf. We fought hard against midwestern schools Carleton and Wisconsin and were able to secure a win against UNC. Check out some sweet action shots from our games! (Photos courtesy of Chris VanLang).

We had tons of parents, friends, and club teammates there who supported us, cheered us on, and brought us food. Thank you to all our amazing fans!
