Generating publicity

The first thing to realize is that you are not alone in your need to publicize. Everyone at the Center has similar needs (whether they realize it or not), and a coordinated effort within the Center is a lot better than "winging it" on your own. It's a case of the whole being more than the sum of the parts.

Here are some options for coordinated publicity. Use this page as a checklist for the kinds of contributions you will make in connection with your project. (The Transfer Officer will work with you to help these things happen for the Center as a whole.)

Generate a news release; include B & W photos if available.
Do this as early in the project as possible, as soon as you have something meaningful to say. However, guard against misleading the public by raising false expectations.

Make the news release non-technical, and try to make it interesting. (See the sample news release in Section 5).
Create a poster describing the project.
Place it on display at the Center to interest "walk-through" traffic.

Make it collapsible so that it can transported and displayed off-site by others.

Be succinct in your language and use color to add visual appeal.
