Who Are We?

Playful Science is a project of the Graduate School of Education at Stanford University. We are funded by the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation. Our interdisciplinary team is made up of researchers, designers, and educators from the Stanford University Graduate School of Education, the Research on Education and Design Lab, and the U.C. Berkeley Lawrence Hall of Science.

Shelley Goldman, Ph.D.
Professor of Education at Stanford
Shelley studies learning in and out of school, and applies findings to the development of teaching and learning environments. Shelley's work focuses on creating opportunities for rich science and math learning, and understanding how design thinking and technologies can increase access to and transform learning. Shelley leads the REDLab at Stanford.

Sherry Hsi
Research Director, UC Berkeley Lawrence Hall of Science
An education researcher, designer, and learning technologist with the Lawrence Hall of Science at University of California, Berkeley, Sherry studies how to design, implement, and evaluate social contexts for better science education, facilitation, and deeper reflection mediated by new media, online environments, and networked technologies. Sherry co-leads the SMILE Pathway, a U.S. National Science Foundation-funded digital library of inquiry-based activities for science and mathematics: www.howtosmile.org
