Single-line Phones and Features

About the Supported Sets and Features

Single-line phones are no longer offered as a new service. However, IT Services continues to support the single-line sets listed below for use on the Stanford telephone system, and all are currently available for departmental purchase.

  • Aastra 9116 — a single-line speakerphone with Caller ID display.
  • Cortelco — a single-line speakerphone appropriate for someone who requires only one telephone line, but prefers the one-button feature access available on more sophisticated telephone sets. It provides the basic telephone set features required in most office environments at the lowest cost.
  • TMX 1104 — a single-line speakerphone, discontinued in Winter 2003. IT Services still supports the TMIX 1104, although it is no longer available for new installations.
  • ATC Impression — a single-line speakerphone. The ATC Impression was discontinued in Autumn 2001. It is no longer available for new installations, but is still supported by IT Services.
  • ITT Plus Wall — appropriate as a hallway/courtesy telephone, as a lab telephone, or for locations where the set must be secured to the wall. This set includes a FLASH key for access to system features, but is not equipped with a HOLD button.
  • ITT Basic Wall — a wall set without a FLASH key that provides only limited access, via the hookswitch, to some system features (e.g., Call Transfer).
  • ITT Basic Desk — a single-line set with volume control on the receiver handset, appropriate as a hallway/courtesy or lab telephone. This set includes a FLASH key for access to system features, but is not equipped with a HOLD button.

IT Services offers three levels of feature packages for use with single-line telephones. The packages provide access to commonly used features, ranging from Call Hold to Group Intercom to Speed Dial, that are appropriate in most office environments. Although telephone system features are accessed through the keys on a single-line telephone set, their functionality is processed behind the scenes, within the University's central PBX system (the "switch"). This enables IT Services to add features to your line when you request them, and to perform system-wide upgrades, all without touching your equipment.

Note: All feature options associated with the following service level packages are not automatically provided to a telephone set assigned that level. The Department IT Contact chooses the specific features IT Services assigns to a particular telephone from the options available.

  • Service Level A — Basic: can include Dial tone, Call Transfer, Consultation/Hold, Call Park, Call Hold.
  • Service Level B — Standard: can include Dial tone, Call Transfer, Consultation/Hold, Call Park, Call Hold, Call Waiting, Call Forward Busy, Call Pickup, Call Forward No Answer, Call Forward Assignable, Group Intercom.
  • Service Level C — Enhanced: can include Dial tone, Call Transfer, Consultation/Hold, Call Park, Call Hold, Call Waiting, Call Forward Busy, Call Pickup, Call Forward No Answer, Call Forward Assignable, Group Intercom, Speed Dial, Ring Again, Make Set Busy, Auto Dial, Last Number Redial.

The following specialized options are not included in any of the Service Level Packages, but are available at additional charge for use with single-line telephone service.

  • Caller ID — Provides capability for set (with the addition of a display box) to view the caller's telephone number before answering the call.
  • Call Forward Alert — Provides capability for set to let you know when a single-line telephone is forwarded to another number or to voice mail.
