Total Number Users to Increase for SciFinder

To keep pace with its growing popularity, the total number of simultaneous users for SciFinder Scholar/SciFinder on the web is being increased from 8 to 11 users in September 2008.

If you’ve experienced more “busy signals” in the past month or two, it’s because the total number of simultaneous users or seats was split between the client and the web versions (5:3). The three new simultaneous users will be added to SciFinder Scholar rather than SciFinder on the web. While I can change the seat allocation between web and client, they are not changed dynamically based on what interface a user selects to search. For this reason, access via the client could be saturated and access via the web have a user seat open.

To eliminate the problem sharing the seat allocation between two interfaces, one campus recently made the decision to have all of its seats allocated to the web version. We may want to do this too, especially when the web version becomes closer in functionality to the client and response time improves. No downloading of client or getting “prf” files to the right folder is needed either.
