  1. Describe the invention completely

    - State the general purpose

    - Give the general background and how prior art has been advanced (include citations if available)

    - Describe the construction and operation of the invention. Identify components in illustrations. If the invention relates to a new compostion of matter, describe the product in structural form and the process of making it. Include all test data evidencing utility.

  2. Describe possible commercial use, including estimates of quantity and sales price, if available.

  3. State reason for applying for a patent as compared to publication of the invention.

  4. Identify any party or institution that is interested in filing for a patent.

  5. Identify any existing publication or planned publication that describes the invention, enabling someone skilled in the technology to make and use it. Include a reprint and citation to identify the publication.

  6. Describe and date any sale or public use of the invention. State whether it was operational or for testing purposes and if there was intention to maintain the invention in secrecy after the operation began.

  7. Provide patent application number, if already filed.

  8. Sign and date the disclosure. The supervisor reads and signs the disclosure in order to certify the accuracy of the statements.

  9. Complete and attach the Certification of Invention form (available from the Transfer Officer).
