An Overview of Technology Transfer
Throughout this Guide we will use the terms technology, transfer,
and exchange. Each has been defined in many different ways, but we
will be using each according to the following operational definitions.
- TECHNOLOGY comprises products, processes, and related findings. It is
tangible, reproducible, and scientific or technical in nature.
- TRANSFER is a term that indicates a flow of technology in a
direction. Typically, transfer implies a flow from the laboratory to the
field.
- EXCHANGE is a term that indicates sharing of resources among two or
more participants. Typically, it suggests cooperation and pooling of
information, expertise, facilities and equipment, or financial support.
An Operational Definition of Technology Transfer
In the Rehabilitation Research and Development Center,
technology transfer concerns the flow of products, processes, and
related findings directly resulting from laboratory work, leading to
their dissemination, adoption, and use by individuals and organizations
outside the RR & D center. |
