The Stanford Technology Ventures Program (STVP) is proud to host annual international conferences for entrepreneurship educators. These conferences are called Roundtables on Entrepreneurship Education (REE). They are designed to stimulate communication and collaboration between business, science, and engineering faculty who teach high-technology entrepreneurship in universities around the world.

Edinburgh, the Inspiring Capital of Scotland, will be the host City, and the University of Edinburgh will be the host institution. The new Informatics Forum building at the world-class institution of the School of Informatics will be the host venue for the occasion. Informatics Ventures, a new programme for entrepreneurship education for Scottish software companies with global ambitions, is the sponsor. This year’s Stanford REE Europe will be an exciting event that will be all about design and innovation, the intersection of design and entrepreneurship education, innovation in entrepreneurship pedagogy, including the application of innovative technologies to teaching entrepreneurship, and experiential learning, including, but not limited to, student-managed venture capital funds and student-focused angel networks. The invited include entrepreneurship and design educators from Europe, as well as other parts of the globe.

Stanford Roundtable on Entrepreneurship Education — Europe 2010
“Innovation for Pedagogy: Design and Entrepreneurship Education”

This year’s Stanford REE Europe will focus on the topic of “Design and Entrepreneurship”. It will combine a group of leading entrepreneurship and design educators from throughout Europe, so that they might learn from each other. What is the difference between teaching design and entrepreneurship? How might we improve our pedagogy and learn from each other in order to deliver better learning, more innovation and increase the number of innovative new ventures from the halls of our academies? Why is design so important for entrepreneurs to embrace, what are design methodologies of teaching, and what does a design philosophy look like?

The conference content will include three keynote talks, including an interactive session with a venture capitalist and a talk from an entrepreneurship educator. In addition, there will also be a special session on future trends in entrepreneurship education, a panel on design and entrepreneurship, and two parallel breakout sessions surrounding six distinct learning tracks. These include:

There will be a “REE Fest” during the first night of the conference. The purpose will be two fold: first, it will allow entrepreneurship and design educators to present their pedagogies and projects that they have created and delivered. Second, it will enable student entrepreneurs and designers from Scotland to present their projects and business start-ups to educators and the wider community.

The social calendar will allow for an exciting experience of Scotland, and include a dinner in the Royal Hall of Surgeons. Saturday will bring the option of golf or a trip to the heart of Scotland and its Hills.
