U.S. winds and wind power at 80 m: the spatial
and temporal distributions of winds and wind power at 80 m (the hub height
of modern wind turbines) are analyzed for the U.S. The so-called Least Square
(LS) methodology is introduced and applied to obtain: (1) vertical profiles
of wind speed given only near-surface wind measurements and a few sounding
profiles and (2) hourly variation of wind speed given only the daily average
at a given station.
Evaluation of global wind power: study of
available wind power on the global scale. The Least Square Methodology is applied
to all stations worldwide and wind power extractable with 77-m diameter, 80-m
tall, 1.5 MW turbines installed at locations in wind power class 3 or higher
is calculated.
