Mark is interested in developing chemical tools for improving bioscience research and medical therapies. Specifically, he is working on a technology to improve our ability to make genetic changes at targeted sites within our genome and a chemical technology to expand and control hematopoietic stem cells outside of living animals. These projects address major challenges for researchers and clinicians involved with genetic manipulation and stem cell biology. Both projects take advantage of our expertise in molecular biology and synthetic organic chemistry and interface with imaging, immunology, and regenerative medicine.
