Course Lecture Schedule Finalized

Perspectives in Assistive Technology is a Winter Quarter Stanford course starting its ninth season in early January that explores the design, development, and use of assistive technology that benefits people with disabilities and older adults. It consists of semi-weekly classroom discussions; lectures by notable professionals, clinicians, and assistive technology users; tours of local medical, clinical, and engineering facilities; and an assistive technology faire.

You are welcome to attend lectures that interest you as they are open to the greater Stanford community. You need not be a Stanford student to attend, there is no signup required, and there is no charge. Lectures are held on Tuesdays and Thursday from 4:15 to 5:30pm in Classroom 110 in the Thornton Center.

Project Demonstrations, Course Evaluation, and Celebration

Do you have an idea for an assistive technology project? - You are encouraged to submit your project suggestions based on real problems experienced by individuals with disabilities or older adults in the local community. Visit the Course Project Solicitation webpage for the project requirements and how to best communicate your ideas. If your project is accepted, you can "pitch" it to the class on Thursday, January 8th. And if a student team selects it, you will have the opportunity to offer them advice, direction, and expertise in person or by phone and/or email.

Would you like to participate in the assistive technology faire? - This third annual event - scheduled for Thursday, February 19th - will provide an opportunity for students and community members to get an up-close look at a variety of devices and learn about available services. If you are a vendor of assistive technology products or supply assistive technology services and would like to participate, please contact me. Everyone is welcome to attend the faire.

How can the community help support the course and student projects? - Funding in any amount for the course and student projects is always welcome. Monetary gifts support approved project expenses, administrative costs, honoraria for guest lecturers, and the end-of-term celebration. Refer to the Course and Project Support webpage for more information.

Who should be contacted to answer questions or to provide additional information? - Please feel free to contact me anytime during the project suggestion process.
