Robotics Applications
Rich Mahoney, PhD
SRI

Abstract: This presentation will focus on the practical steps to bringing something to market, from the penetrating the market perspective. Concepts to be discussed will include:

  • minimum usable product
  • early adopter programs
  • evolving the product scope in situ
  • building up the team around the product

These are tricks of the trade for how to get a product into the market that goes beyond what is usually presented on the design side.

Biosketch: Richard Mahoney, PhD, SRI International Director of Robotics, has more than 20 years of experience in research, development, and commercialization of healthcare robotics technology, with a particular emphasis on assistive and therapy applications. At SRI, Mahoney leads a team focused on the next generation of tools that can improve patient lives and quality of medical care.

Prior to joining SRI in 2008, Mahoney was general manager of the US operations of Motorika USA, Inc., an early-stage medical device company specializing in technology for occupational therapy and rehabilitation. Earlier, he was the director of business development for Applied Resources Corporation, and co-director of the Robotics Laboratory of the Applied Science and Engineering Labs at the University of Delaware/AI DuPont Institute. Mahoney earned a PhD in engineering from the University of Cambridge, England, while attending on a Fulbright Scholarship.
