Joe Mellin & Rajiv Patel
Stanford Joint Program in Product Design

Abstract: This talk will explore the design process and its application in developing Assistive Technology. It will be based on the user-centered design process taught in the Stanford Program in Design. We will get hands-on and facilitate an experience in using the design process.

Biosketches:

Joe Mellin - After finishing a degree in Physics from UC Berkeley, Joe went to work designing mobility devices for the developing world. Working first with Whirl Wind Wheelchair International and Freedom Technologies in the Philippines. Now Joe is doing a thesis on Designing Entrepreneurial Ecosystems in the Stanford Program in Design.

Rajiv Patel - Rajiv has been working with large and small firms in the Bay Area for nearly a decade, including a stint as Product Manager at eBay and most recently, Director of Product Management at HotChalk, an education focused startup. He is most comfortable serving as a bridge between technology, business, and the users. Rajiv earned a Bachelor's degree from UC Berkeley focusing in Genetics and is currently a Master's candidate at the Stanford Program in Design.
