Postdoctoral ScholarĀ

Chris obtained his PhD in Bioengineering in the laboratory of Prof. Tanja Kortemme at the University of California, San Francisco. There, he investigated how the effects of protein mutations propagated from the molecular to the cellular scale. He discovered and characterized novel allosteric sites in the conserved eukaryotic GTPase Ran/Gsp1, and developed computational approaches for the analysis of genetic interaction maps and systematic mutagenesis data.

As a postdoctoral scholar, Chris will leverage quantitative measurements of cell state to train deep learning models of protein sequence-fitness relationships. Specifically, he is interested in models which account for different cellular contexts when predicting protein function, and using these models for characterizing disease mutations, developing therapeutics, and engineering synthetic protein networks.
