Markus Grosch

Markus obtained his PhD in the laboratory of Dr. Micha Drukker at the Helmholtz Center in Munich. There, he studied the function of membrane-less granules during differentiation of human pluripotent stem cells. His current interests include the pathophysiological mechanism of mutations in the splicing protein RBM20 in familial dilated cardiomyopathy. At Stanford, he employs novel gene editing approaches for repairing RBM20 mutations in human iPSC-derived cardiomyocytes and in mice. Furthermore, he seeks to develop new tools for dissecting gene editing effects in the whole organism and RBM20-mediated splicing at single-cell resolution. This extends to the analysis of the RBM20`s splice target Titin, the largest protein in the human body and responsible for contractile properties of cardiomyocytes.
