Andreas obtained his PhD from the University of Lausanne, Switzerland, where he investigated the link between genetic variation and gene expression. During his thesis he applied computational methods to integrate genotype, microarray, RNA-seq and ChIP-seq data to understand how genetic variants perturb gene regulatory layers of cells, leading to gene expression changes.
During his postdoc at Stanford, Andreas will focus on characterizing the regulatory landscape of the human genome. To this end, he will develop and apply computational methods for pooled CRISPR perturbations coupled with single-cell RNA sequencing (Perturb-seq/Crop-seq). These novel technologies enable to detect gene expression changes resulting from large-scale precise perturbations of regulatory elements. Using data from such experiments, Andreas plans to generate detailed maps of regulatory elements and their target genes in the human genome.
