Deletion of item records from Unicorn

REMOVALS FROM UNICORN ARE COMPLETE AND IRREVOCABLE.

BE CERTAIN THAT WHAT YOU ARE DELETING IS:

1. A LAW LIBRARY TITLE – under no circumstances will we EVER delete item records for any other library on campus.

2. REALLY WHAT YOU WANTED TO DELETE – it is easy to become distracted and lose where you are in Unicorn; if that happens it is better to start all over rather than to delete the wrong item record.

Follow this procedure for multi-volume sets:

1. Click on the REMOVE TITLE, CALL NUMBERS, OR COPIES wizard (icon is a book with a red X across it), found within the TITLE MAINTENANCE wizard.

2. Search for the first item to be removed; double-check to be certain that it matches what you want to delete from the database.

3. Be sure the circle for Remove Selected Copies is checked.

4. Check the square on the right side of the display for each volume you wish to remove, up to but NOT including the last one, and enter.

5. Select Return to volume list (step 2) and double check that you have removed the correct volumes.

6. If withdrawing a title completely, remove last copy by following the procedures for Deletions of Titles from Unicorn.

7. Record statistics for volumes discarded under VOLUMES DISCARDS/LOST selecting the appropriate format for the title withdrawn, e.g. monographs.

8. If you are discarding physical volumes, recycle whenever possible, or use blue bags to dispose of unrecyclable material.

9. If the work being done is part of the RCP project, record statistics also under Maintenance on RCP STATISTICS sheet, and verify that the pink binder barcode(s) has been pulled.
