The Athanasius Kircher correspondence project was created with the goal of making the manuscript correspondence of Athanasius Kircher available on the Internet. The project was commenced through the collaboration of the Museo Galileo in Florence, the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, and the European University Institute in Fiesole, under the direction of Michael John Gorman and Nick Wilding. Since September 2000, the project has been rehoused at Stanford University.

Kircher materials in the Stanford University Libraries form part of the History of Science and Technology Collections, curated by Henry Lowood.  Most of the printed materials in this collection are housed in the Rare Books Division of the Department of Special Collections.

The original web content was composed by Michael John Gorman. The current content editor is Suzanne Sutherland Duchacek, who has also contributed new content. Glen Worthey (no longer at Stanford) and Ever Rodríguez assisted with technology.
