A new test has been developed which analyzes the VOCs (volatile organic compounds) of old books and documents to analyze the degradation of the paper. The test does not harm the materials and could be useful in their preservation. Read a synopsis of the article in Science Daily, which cites the full report of American Chemical Society's Analytical Chemistry, a semi-monthly journal.

On November 9, 1989, the wall erected by the GDR that separated West Berlin from all of East Germany was cracked, beginning the reunification of Germany that took almost a year to complete.
