phase II clinical trial

The second in a series of studies that test the safety and efficacy of a new drug or treatment in human participants and is only performed once the drug has successfully passed the phase I clinical trial. This study involves more participants and attempts to determine if the treatment has positive effects on the participants’ conditions. Side effects continue to be studied.
