Humbio PTSD Module
In 2009 ATS Carlos Seligo and Professor David Lyons collaborated to create a learning module about Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, in order to provide a focus to the Winter and Spring Humbio Core curriculum. PTSD poses problems across a wide variety of disciplines, from the neuroscience of memory formation–both fear conditioning and extinction–to the clinical challenges of diagnosing and treating veterans returning from war, and the aim of the Humbio PTSD site is to introduce these problems to students . The first tab makes connections to lecturers in the Core, followed by the DSM-IV diagnostic criteria illustrated with very short video and audio clips. The Anatomical tab and the Clinical tab contain summaries of primary source journal articles accompanied by custom illustrations and animations, and the Glossary and other round out the topic with helpful resources for navigating through the often difficult topic of PTSD.
