School of Humanities & Sciences Summer Research Early Identification Program (SR-EIP)

Talented undergraduates from around the nation are invited to apply for the Stanford University School of Humanities & Sciences Summer Research Early Identification Program (SR-EIP) through the Leadership Alliance (Deadline February 1st). (Stanford Undergraduates interested in Summer Research at other institutions can apply through the Leadership Alliance as well.) SR-EIP is designed to encourage students from groups under-served and underrepresented in the natural sciences, social sciences and humanities to consider research careers in the academic, public or private sectors. Summer research programs expose you to faculty and graduate students at other institutions who can go on to mentor you and assist you with the graduate school process.

  • Undergraduates work for eight weeks under the guidance of a faculty or research mentor at a participating Alliance institution.

    2010 Summer Research Program Participants

  • Through this one-on-one collaboration, students gain theoretical knowledge and practical training in academic research and scientific experimentation.
  • Students also receive assistance with navigating the graduate application process.
  • Students are required to present a written report and/or abstract at the end of their summer research activity and complete a program evaluation.
  • All participants are expected to participate in the Leadership Alliance’s annual, national symposium and to make an oral presentation of their research.
  • For their participation, students will receive round-trip travel, free room and board, plus a stipend.
  • Complete the application online: The Leadership Alliance. Deadline February 1st. You will be able to request that your application be reviewed by up to three different universities in the consortium.

SR-EIP for Humanities & Social Sciences

  • The Stanford School of Humanities and Sciences SR-EIP program and the Leadership Alliance Mellon Initiative, supported by the Mellon Foundation, provides full-time research experience for undergraduates interested in pursuing doctoral study in the humanities and social sciences.

SR-EIP for Mathematics & Statistics

  • The Stanford School of Humanities and Sciences SR-EIP program provides summer research internships in the mathematics & statistics offered through the Leadership Alliance. This program provides full-time research experience for undergraduates interested in pursuing doctoral study in the sciences

The Stanford Summer Research Program in Biomedical Sciences (SSRP)

The Stanford Summer Research Program in Biomedical Sciences is a fully funded, eight week, residential internship program. It offers undergraduates from across the country who want to prepare for and enter Ph.D. programs in the biomedical sciences a unique opportunity for advanced research experience within a world class university.  This internship program combines a rigorous research opportunity with comprehensive mentoring.  Application deadline: Feb. 1.

Amgen Scholars Program

The Amgen Scholars Program provides undergraduate students interested in a PhD or MD/PhD with an opportunity to engage in a fully funded, hands-on research experience at some of the nation’s leading educational institutions for eight to twelve weeks during the summer. Stanford is one of ten Amgen Scholars Program universities offering such opportunities.

Summer Undergraduate Research in Geoscience and Engineering (SURGE)

SURGE is a fully funded 8-week, comprehensive research, training and mentoring summer residential program for rising junior and senior undergraduates. Research areas include the Earth, Energy, and Environmental Sciences. SURGE focuses on preparing students for graduate school and targets U.S. or international citizens enrolled in U.S.undergraduate institutions, who, by reason of their culture, class, race, ethnicity, background, or life experiences, would add diversity to the field. Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC) Undergraduate Internships

This program offers twenty students an eight week paid internship at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC) in Menlo Park, California. Students work with a scientist or engineer on a project related to the laboratory's research program.  Students also participate in a program of scientific lectures and tours to local Silicon Valley high-tech industry. Free housing on Stanford campus, transportation, and a stipend are offered to selected students.
 
Stanford Nanofabrication Facility Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) Program

This program offers five to ten students an opportunity to spend ten weeks doing research at a state-of-the-art nanotechnology fabrication facility under the direction of faculty research mentors.
