Agribusiness and rural livelihoods in Kalimantan
Led by Dr. Curran, this research project examines the socio-economic and political drivers of agribusiness along with community responses and change in livelihoods and land use. It employs diverse methods to assess the ecological and social impacts of company practices within the shifting discourse promoted by the State, international institutions, conservation NGOs and donor agencies. Her work involves long-term empirical measurements on indirect ecological effects (such as forest productivity, hydrology, and fire) as well as quantification of carbon sources/sinks and assessments of initiatives for carbon payments.
