Foraging and land management in the Western Desert of Australia
martu burningLed by co-PI’s Rebecca Bliege Bird, Douglas Bird, and James Holland Jones, this research project among the Martu of Western Australia is a broadly interdisciplinary and collaborative approach to understanding the relationship between fire, hunting and gathering, and social organization. The project draws on theory, models, and methods from behavioral ecology, landscape ecology, and evolutionary ecology to answer questions about how local social contexts influence economic decision-making and how such decisions impact local ecological environments.
