Intellectual property and Internet regulation bills are usually relegated to the wonks and specialists. But the Stop Online Piracy Act and the PROTECT IP Act, which address those two areas, firmly hit a chord with the public. This talk will address the history of the bills, the problems with the legislation as written, and the mounting opposition as they progress through the legislature, including the unprecedented "Blackout" day on January 18.

About the speaker:
Parker Higgins is an activist at the Electronic Frontier Foundation, specializing in issues at the intersection of freedom of speech and copyright, trademark, and patent law. He previously studied at the Gallatin School of Individualized Study at New York University, where he developed a concentration of "Creativity, Freedom of Speech, and Intellectual Property." While at NYU, he served on the board of the student organization "Students for Free Culture".
