Dear Senator Feinstein:

I am writing in support of H.R. 359 "The Emigrant Wilderness Preservation Act of 1999.

CalTrout along with the California Department of Fish and Game have filed an appeal of the USFS decision to no longer support checkdams that maintain streamflows into Cherry Creek. This Creek has a wonderful run of native California fish that is at risk if flows are not maintained in this stream. Despite what has been said by the Forest Service, many local people feel this stream will go dry without at least maintaining the checkdams on the Middle Fork of the stream.

Congressman Doolittle, who represents the area, submitted a bill last year to preserve the dams. This current bill has been modified and has bipartisan support in the House.

Thank-you very much for your careful consideration of this issue and please do your part to support anglers.

Sincerely,
