Archaeology is a method to study the past, but it also helps us understand the present and imagine our collective future. I discovered the disciplines of anthropology and archaeology, after a career in government and politics. That earlier career prompted many questions about human social, cultural, economic, and political behavior.

The purpose of this website is to offer an introduction to those who have an interest, but little direct experience, in the conduct of archaeological research and interpretation. I have been blessed with outstanding advisors and colleagues, as both a student, field researcher, and educator. Archaeology is by necessity a "team" effort. That aspect of the discipline is a powerful attractor for me. So, join me in this exploration of our shared past and a shared journey to a hopeful future.
