Northern Shoveler gets its from the shovel-like bill. The distinct color pattern makes them easy to be identified even from a distance. They are common wintering waterfowls all over the Bay area. In summer, you can see their breeding display with a couple swimming together and the male in front nodding its head just like one in this picture.
