It was the day before Christmas when Kirby and I saw this male American Kestrel. We just finished some easy hiking and were on our way home. Kestrels like to perch along the narrow drive way in this small park, overseeing an open field. They are skillful hunters. However, because of their small size, I imagine that their prays probably include only small rodents, grasshopper or some unfortunate small birds. I was lucky spotting this beautiful male while sitting inside my car, which made a perfect blind. I was also very excited about using my new digital camera the second time. It was a beautiful day.
