Bold Eagle Picture

Bold Eagle, Wabasha, Minnesota

April, 1994

Nikon F3, 500mm+1.4X teleconverter; 1/500 at f4; Kodachrome KR64

The first time I saw the Bold Eagle, they were still on the Endangered Species List. However, it was not very difficult to spot one in this tiny Minnesota town along the Mississippi River during spring when the eagles migrate north. The most eagles I saw in one day there was ninety six of them. They basically follow the opening of the once frozen river northbound, obviously for the fishes it provides. The distinct pattern of white head and white tail will not be seen until they become four years old.
