Slick, is how I will describe Clark's Grebe or its close cousin, Western Grebe. Clark's was once thought to be the light morph of Western, which has greener bill. Both of them are common and easily spotted from distance due to the distinct color pattern in the neck and chest. They act elegantly on the water, like the royalty in the grebe family. Watching them dancing in pairs on the surface of water during their breeding display is breath-taking. I was lucky enough to witness once in the summer of 1994 at a North Dakota lake.
