Almost everybody recognize these big birds and are familiar with their loud calling. However, my heart raced uncontrollably when I took this picture in a cold winter morning. It was my first birding trip that morning since my arrival to this country 14 months earlier. In contrast to the scenario I used to face in Taiwan, this pair of Canadian geese was so easy to approach. I soon learned that they are sometimes too friendly for comfort. When the pair fed in the field, one stood guard as seen in the photo.
