Most Commonly Cited Items

The following items were the most commonly cited items during the most recent hazardous materials and waste inspection:

  • Hazardous Waste Labeling - Make sure all chemical waste has been identified with completed hazardous waste tags.
  • Secondary Containment - Make sure all hazardous materials (including waste & oil pumps) is stored in secondary containment free of any spilled material.
  • Chemical Inventory & Life Safety Box - Make sure that your online chemical inventory is up to date and that your Life Safety Box is current (emergency contact, room map, & printed inventory).
  • Labeling of Hazardous Materials - Make sure all chemical containers are legibly labeled with the full chemical or trade name (note: abbreviations/formulas are not adequate).
  • Separation of Incompatible Materials - Segregate all incompatible materials. If unsure, use Stanford's Storage Group Classification System.
