Born and raised in the Central Valley city of Modesto California.
At 34 years old, he was one of the youngest candidates to run for president in the history of the United States when he ran in the 2000 Presidental Primary in 2000. (He would have been 35 years old at the time of the general elections).
Received a Master of Sciences in Water Sciences from The University of California at Davis and A Bachelor of Sciences from California State University, Chico.
Tom Lives in the rural community of Woodside Califoria, where he has called for the last 15 years.
Currently work at Stanford University at the School of Earth Sciences.
Married to Dawn Banghart, a native of rural Michigan. Tom often describes his wife of 9 years as a physicist, poet, tri-athlete, mentor and best friend.
