Indio, California

July 2008

En Español

In July 2008 I spent only a few days in Indio, California, the site of my first Chlosyne lacinia capture, but those few days were successful. I spent a fair amount of time hanging out under the palm trees where the sunflowers grow.

It didn’t take long my first day out to find C. lacinia. There were lots of them! I caught ten easily within an hour (compare that to the ten I caught in all in Costa Rica in May).

I drove around a lot during my time there. I went up a road and quickly made my way up in elevation. When I got near the top I discovered there was no C. lacinia around nor was there anything approaching good habitat around. It was much drier than the city below. Nice views though.
