Toolbox.gov
– The future of a more efficient government
-Steven Duplinsky: steven@duplinsky.com
Toolbox.gov is a networking and collaboration platform designed specifically for government agencies to create a government community that connects personnel across different geographic, experiential, and occupational demographics. Toolbox.gov will allow employees to learn from the past experiences of others, reduce parallel processing, and provide the tools to work together to accomplish tasks in a more efficient and effective manner. Many government agencies currently use platforms such as PowerSteering and Microsoft SharePoint, however not only is there inconsistency in the platforms used, the current systems are not designed for efficient cross-agency communication. Moreover, these platforms do not allow for the possibility of seamless integration of public input.
Toolbox.gov connects individuals across agencies working on similar tasks both through specific release functions as well as automatic cross searches to draw past and present ideas of others into a project. A five level privacy system and invisible search engine insures protection of private information while still allowing similar project leaders to connect. The widest level of privacy even allows input from the public, fully harnessing the power of Web 2.0 to help the government better serve the people.
The structure of the Toolbox system is specifically designed to allow for easy integration of new groups, offices, or entire agencies, while providing easy access to the public mind. As the internal community increases in size the value of the network will continue to grow a data-base of “best practices” which is automatically assimilated and easily available to all offices and employees of the Federal Government.
A system such as Toolbox.gov is the next essential step to making better use of tax payer funds by allowing agencies to run more efficiently. This will free more resources to serve the public good and enable an integrated feedback system to ensure government actions are consistent with citizen demand.
