When Fear Prevents Acting on Knowledge

"The key to driving out fear even during difficult times is to provide people with as much prediction, understanding, control and compassion as possible."

SASKEN in India is one company that has unique HR practices in the Indian IT industry.
Triple Whammy from Sasken

Sasken went through a difficult period in 2001, during a recession in the telecom industry. They had to decide between layoffs and paycuts, and chose the latter to retain their personnel. Across the board cuts were applied, including top management. Very few personnel left the company during this period. They also made a bet and specialized in a certain mobile technology. That helped them rebound as the economy started picking up. Sasken is rated as one of the best places to work for in India.

hi there,
I work for sasken back in india and i can't help but second every single word that has been penned down about my company. It is indeed one of the most "excellent" places to work for.
As a matter of fact during the times of crisis in 2001 and when the company went through a pay-cut, counsellors and phychiatrists were hired to sit amidst the employees. They were meant not just for the people who were laid-off but for anyone to consult who felt stressed by the idea that sasken was laying off people, and he could be one of them.
Lots can be said about our HR system, which is indeed one of the best in India, where in some policies have even been written down on stone for many others to follow. I know our head Hari-Iyer personally, and the culture is such that I can always go right up to him and present my woes or joys without being misunderstood.
It is indeed a great place where employees are valued highly and kudos to Hari who made it such.
