I really enjoy helping students understand complex material!  I feel teaching is one of the best ways to give back for all of the amazing instructors that have influenced me throughout my education.  In addition, interacting with and helping students is such a rewarding experience. I hope to continue connecting and teaching students throughout my life.

Calculus Teaching Assistant

For four semesters between 2003 and 2005, I was a calculus teaching assistant for the Georgia Tech School of Mathematics.  During the fall semesters, I taught Calculus I.  During the spring semesters, I taught Calculus II, which primarily focuses on Linear Algebra.  I taught for Tom Morley for 3 of my 4 semesters as a TA.

I held recitation for 40 students every morning on Tuesdays and Thursdays for 50 minutes where I explained concepts, worked problems, and answered questions.  In addition, I held office hours and spent time working one-on-one with students.  My responsibilities also included grading and recording grades for all homework, projects, and examinations.

I had a really great time getting to know my students and am still friends with several of them.  I think my public speaking, board skills, and ability to explain tough concepts and answer questions has greatly improved due to all of the practice I had as a TA.

Freshmen Experience Tutoring

I worked for three years with the Learning Assistance Program at Georgia Tech.  The LAP provides free tutoring in 10 freshmen dorms on campus every Sunday to Thursday night from 8pm-12.  I enjoyed working for one year as a tutor and met a lot of great people.  I was promoted after one year to the position of Learning Center Coordinator so that I could help improve the program overall.  As LCC, my job was to help plan, promote, run, and evaluate the tutoring program.  I was in charge of 4 freshmen dorms and approximately 20 tutors.  I was responsible for recruiting, hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating the tutors as well as maintaining the Learning Centers.  I really enjoyed getting to know the tutors and students and running this great program.
