Multiview Image Coding with
Disparity-Compensated Lifted Wavelets (Image Compression)
Winter
2006: For the project in Image and Video Compression, I worked
with Nandhini Santhanam on a wavelet method for compressing images of a
scene from slightly different angles. Since the images are similar in
nature, together they can be compressed efficiently. We used disparity
compensation to match blocks in one image with the most similar blocks in
another image. Then, we applied the Haar transform to the
corresponding blocks from the two images and encoded the resulting images
with SPIHT. After implementing the encoding and decoding algorithms,
we generated the associated rate-distortion curves and derived the optimal
bit allocation procedure.
