Programming-by-Example Gesture Recognition
(Machine Learning) Fall 2006: With Kevin Gabayan, we developed hardware and algorithms for a programming-by-example rapid prototyping system. The user holds device containing a 3-axis accelerometer and makes a number of different hand gestures for training. When the device is used by someone else, they are able to perform the gestures and the program will automatically detect if and when specific hand gestures occurred. Our algorithm for template matching using linear time warping had perfect performance on our test data. We also implemented dynamic time warping and hidden Markov models for the gesture recognition algorithm.
