numerical analysis of pulse detonation engine cycles

background: engineering background and motivation

PDE research has widely spread out recently, because it is considered as a good candidate for aerospace propulsion system of next generation. 1-D and 2-D numerical and theoretical analyses of PDE have been performed by numerous workers. However, there is no investigation about the cycle analysis of PDE. In studying PDE, a key issue would be how to generate a CJ/quasi-CJ detonation in a short distance and how to realize high frequency operation. Therefore, investigation of fuel injection and subsequent ignition has become unavoidable and important. In this research, a two-dimensional cycle analysis of PDE was performed. To achieve a "high-frequency-running" engine, we paid attention specifically to the exhausting and injection process for the 2nd cycle, where the burnt gas generated in the 1st cycle still remains within PDE.
