October letter to K Parents

A letter to the Kindergarten parents, for the Friday folder of the last week of October, before their children start their full schedule, full Tuesday/Thursday and Wednesday school days.

Dear Kindergarten Parents

For pick-up after your children's full school days I would recommend you come early and park in regular parking or in Mitchell Park, or (if possible) walk or bike to school; but if you must pick up by car please observe the following rules to keep an already difficult procedure manageable. There is no pick-up in the Kindergarten drop-off zone: the pick-up zone for all grades is in front of classrooms 4-8.

On entering Hoover Campus, form a line in the right lane, keep the left lane open for the school bus, emergency vehicles, and parents looking for parking;
In the loading zone, pull forward as far as possible, keep pulling forward as space opens up: the loading zone is not very long, we have to maximize the little space we have; also pull forward when exiting if there's open space in front of you;
Stay with your car, absolutely no parking in the loading zone: if you're not in your car you won't be able to pull forward as space opens up and you keep other parents from collecting their children, or you cause risky manoeuvering around your car;
Be ready to load and leave quickly: you may help your children into their booster seats, but there is really no time to put backpacks into the trunk of your car or for discussions etc.;
If your children are not waiting in the pick-up area, give other parents a chance to collect their waiting children: exit the loading zone and join the queue again or park in designated parking; talk to your children about being ready and waiting next time;
Pick-up only at the curb; don't let children (or adults) enter your car in the middle of the street. Passing between cars is too dangerous.
When walking, always cross in the striped crosswalks; crossing in the middle of the road is unsafe and a bad example.
