Summary and conclusions    (previous page)    (index page)

  • To date, snowmelt solitons have been observed only in water from melting snowbanks flowing down blacktop roads at elevations above 6200' in the Sierra Nevada. Additional experimental observations, as well as references to theoretical interpretations or textbook explanations, would thus be useful.

  • The significance of these results for optical network communications, quantum cryptography, or possible new forms of hydraulic telecommunication has also yet to be determined, particularly since no quantum analysis of the snowmelt phenomena appears to have been carried out to date.

  • Research on this topic to date has been supported primarily by the Social Security Administration and TIAA-CREF. Before undertaking any further work, certain natural hazards inherent in carrying out this research at Lake Tahoe may also need to be taken into consideration.
