Course Description:

This is a basic introductory course in Persian which currently spoken in Iran and assumes no prior knowledge of the Persian language. The course is taught as a sequence, in three quarters, and uses an eclectic pedagogical approach to help students with mastering basic vocabulary, grammar structures, and develop all four communicative skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The course is based on a fully integrated multimedia program (textbook, video, video clips, audio CD, DVD, and website exploration). Students will learn the language with an emphasis on communicative and interactive classroom activities. Students will be exposed to Persian music, idioms and they will read short poems by Persian poets and talk about music, movies, and ect. At the end of the quarter, students will visit a local Persian market/restaurant.

Graduate students: If you cannot take the 3 units, you can reduce it to 2 or 1 unit.
