Problem set solutions have been posted to the website (under Problem Sets section)
Tomorrow, Tuesday, will be dedicated to an Intro to Matlab and Programming. The lecture will be divided into three main parts.
- Part 1: General Overview
- Getting Started
- Data Classes
- Linear Algebra
- Part 2: General Programming
- Program Control
- Performance Tips
- Part 3: Dynamic Programming
- Quick Intro to Dynamic Programming
- Curse of Dimensionality
- Discretization of the State Space
- Discrete State Dynamic Programming
- An Application
Slides are posted and the problem sets will be posted after the class.
Again, remember that we meet in Encina Modular B, 427 Arguello Way. See you tomorrow.
I posted suggested solutions for the problem sets. Remember, there is more than one way to do stuff. If you have any questions on them, or any others, you know where to find me.
Friday will be dedicated for Stata. We'll start with the most basic stuff and aim to end with programming Monte Carlo simulations
The lecture will be divided to three parts:
- Part 1 - Introduction
- Graphical user interface
- Datasets, command syntax and do-files
- Part 2 - Programming basics
- Macros and post-estimation variables
- Loops and control flow
- Part 3 - Posting Results and Two main examples
- Posting results to a table
- Creating a summary statistics table
- Monte Carlo simulation
Slides are posted. We will do parts of the problem sets (also up) during class (this is why we asked for a computer lab). Tons of fun ahead!
Remember! we meet at Encina Modular B, 427 Arguello Way (see link to a Google map on the right bar). See you on Friday (10am).
On Tuesday, August 31, we will meet at 10am in room 351. In the first meeting we'll talk about the programming camp, computing resources in the department, using the UNIX servers and a short introduction to LaTeX.
Please make an effort to attend at least the first meeting. For the two other sessions, we will also post a short description of what each session will include beforehand, so you can decide whether you want to come or not.
