These simple javascripts (1) automatically click through Stanford's WebAuth page (the one where you need to click a link up to 5x to access sites like Web of Science), and (2) automatically load the first full-text option on the "Find It @ Stanford" links. The first script is adapted from a script by Matthew Buckett; I simply made it work with Stanford's particular version of WebAuth. The second is of my own making. Use both at your own risk.
How to Install
- Install GreaseMonkey (a popular tool to extend FireFox with Javascript). (This should take ~ 30 seconds).
- Firefox will prompt you to restart the browser, to complete the Greasemonkey install; do it.
- To click-through web-auth: Click on this link, and allow the script to install.
Now, try visiting a site like Nature; the browser should automatically click-through. - To click-through the first full-text link at "Find it @ SU":; Click on this link, and allow the script to install.
Now, if you visit a "Find it @ SU" link through Web of Science or Google Scholar, the first full-text option should open automatically. There seem to be a couple of bugs in this one, thnough...
Additional Notes
These scripts are nearly instant, but Stanford's servers are slow; if you want to be efficient, I suggest opening the page, going back to what you were doing, and checking back in a few seconds later. The page should be auto-loaded.
Also, don't close the "Find it @ SU" tab when you open a new article; that way, your browser won't change "focus" when you click on a new article.
If you use these, please give me feedback; in particular, I'm considering auto-loading PDFs at big sites like Wiley and ScienceDirect, because I know that 90% of the time I'd rather see a PDF version than a webpage. Would that be useful?
