Date: Sat, 15 Nov 2008 09:57:51 -0800 (PST) From: Roberta J Morris To: scievseminar08@lists.stanford.edu Subject: Assignment for 11/17 For 11/17, please prepare the first 5 minutes of each side's direct examination in your simulation. This does not lock you in: I expect that your actual simulations will be different, including with different slides and questions, but I want everyone to have a chance to speak, and I want to see how the group's ideas are shaping up. Your presentations will begin at 7:15. You should have Q&As so that the experts don't just lecture. The first expert to testify should include the first-for-everybody slide, #4 in 08.PPT: Patent Number Title, Inventors Priority Date (or Filing Date if same); Issue Date Team Members (name, school/dept, expected grad yr) For PO / For AI (for 11/17, just list everyone Experts Lawyers Issue This slide - however it ends up by 12/1-2 - will be displayed on the screen BEFORE your actual simulation begins. The first expert to testify should have as the *second* slide the whole claim, formatted, and with the graying/highlighting/size-changes (or blocks of color for the molecule claim) that you worked on last week, however you have amended it since then. Other than that, each expert should have 2-5 slides that the attorney will let the expert, or ask the expert to, present. The Swig Room (our classroom) will be available for your meetings on both 11/17 and 11/24 from 4 pm on. If other people are in the room at that time, ask them to leave! I've reserved the room for you. We also have it until 10 pm, if you want to work after I leave. You can also meet in my office, if it gets too noisy in Room 256B on Monday, or at other times, too. Let me know when you need the office and I will go somewhere else. ONE MORE THING for Monday: Please also plan to listen attentively to everyone else's presentations. You will be expected to ask a question or give a constructive comment to each other team. There is now a TEAMS.HTM page on the course website, soon to be linked, but already available if you add that filename to the URL. If you notice any errors on it, please let me know. File histories will be linked on that page, too. See you on 11/17. RJM
